Go Back             KHUSHHAL PAKISTAN PROGRAMME

Khushhal Pakistan Programme (KPP) is a poverty alleviation programme, envisaged to undertake schemes with a short gestation period, designed for socio-economic uplift in their areas of execution and to provide jobs to the local populace.

POVERTY ALLEVIATION A CHALLENGE

Poverty in Pakistan has risen very steeply during the 1990’s from 22.4% (1992-93) to 32.2% (1998-99). All indicators show that the Poverty graph continues to rise, which is a matter of great concern.

It is higher in rural areas (36.3 %) as compared to urban areas (22.4%).

It is strongly related to the lack of basic needs.

Poor households have 27% of literate heads, while for the non-poor the figure is 52%.

The poor have no or relatively low access to health related infrastructure.
