The addition of a passenger train route connecting the cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi has been approved by the Prime Minister, who claims that it will help provide a solution to the transport hassle faced by residents of the twin cities.

The T-Chowk Flyover construction site, where the decision was made public on Friday, was the premise where the Prime Minister also instructed the Railways Minister and the Interior Minister to work together so that the project is completed on time.

Use of Existing Railways

The Prime Minister has stated that the required infrastructure for the service, which is the rail tracks that link the two cities, is already available. This means that the project can be completed faster than other transport initiatives. Additionally, the service will reduce road traffic and enhance the ease of travel for tourists and commuters to the capital city and the surrounding areas.

Support from the Federal Government

According to the Prime Minister, the project will be fully funded and served by the Federal Government, however, this serves as a warning that it will not be stuck in the middle of construction, which has been the case for other transport projects that have been made in the past.

T-Chowk Flyover Flyover GroundWork

That morning, Sharif started the construction of the Rs. 1.4 billion T-Chowk Flyover on the busy intersection of the Islamabad Expressway–G.T. Road. The project is to be completed in 150 days and is expected to improve traffic flow not only on Islamabad and Rawalpindi, but on the surrounding areas where traffic bottlenecks have frustrated commuters for a long time.

Both projects are part of the government’s renewed efforts to alleviate urban mobility. These efforts have been lacking for an area where day to day life is severely burdened in the quickly growing metropolitan area.
