In a bid to shield low-income families from rising electricity costs, the Sindh government has rolled out a program offering free home solar systems to eligible households.

The scheme targets residents whose monthly electricity usage has remained below 100 units for the past six months. Around 130,000 families are expected to benefit from the initiative, which also aims to encourage a shift towards renewable energy sources in the province.

Eligibility and Restrictions

Applicants must not have received a solar system through any other government project in the past. To apply, residents need to attach a copy of their latest electricity bill and their Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) with the application form. Verification from the Union Council chairman or a gazetted officer is mandatory before submission.

Where and When to Apply

Completed applications should be submitted to the Sindh Energy Department under the “Home Solar System (On-Grid)” project. The deadline is August 20, 2025.

Why This Matters

While Pakistan’s power sector struggles with shortages and surging tariffs, small-scale solar solutions are emerging as a lifeline for low-consumption households. By providing these systems free of charge, the Sindh government is reducing the financial burden on vulnerable families and promoting self-reliance in energy generation.
