Lahore — Lahore General Hospital (LGH) has been recognised as Punjab’s best-performing teaching hospital in infection prevention, topping a recent province-wide evaluation.

The assessment, carried out by the National Institute of Health (NIH) Islamabad in collaboration with the Punjab Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Department, reviewed hospitals against both national and international benchmarks. Inspectors scrutinised Standard Operating Procedures across all departments, focusing not only on documentation but also on how effectively those standards were put into practice.

From Among the Best to the Very Best

While LGH ranked among the province’s top four teaching hospitals overall, it secured the number one position in infection control — a critical area linked directly to patient safety and healthcare outcomes.

Prof Dr Faryad Hussain, the hospital’s Medical Superintendent, credited the achievement to rigorous adherence to guidelines and consistent monitoring. “This evaluation looked at every layer of our infection control measures, from sterilisation protocols to real-time departmental practices,” he said.

Teamwork Behind the Win

Prof Dr Farooq Afzal, Principal of Ameer-ud-Din Medical College (affiliated with LGH), emphasised that the recognition was the result of collective effort. “Our staff’s dedication, systematic oversight, and focus on patient safety made this possible,” he noted, adding that the result reaffirms public trust in the institution.

The accolade positions LGH as a provincial benchmark in infection prevention — a crucial advantage at a time when hospital-acquired infections remain a global challenge.
