Recent heavy rainfall and widespread flooding have disrupted telecommunications across Pakistan, impacting a total of 4,349 telecom sites nationwide. Officials from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) report that services have now been restored at 4,137 of these sites, leaving 212 sites still offline as recovery efforts continue.
Punjab Faces the Brunt of Disruptions
The remaining offline sites are all located in Punjab, where severe waterlogging has slowed repair work. Floodwaters have caused power outages and damaged critical electrical infrastructure, making the restoration process more challenging than in other regions.
PTA sources confirmed that restoration teams are working around the clock, coordinating closely with telecom operators to bring all services back online. “We are making every effort to ensure mobile and internet connectivity is stable for residents in the affected areas,” the authority stated.
Coordinated Response Through Emergency Centers
The National Emergency Telecommunication Coordination Center is actively monitoring the situation and liaising with stakeholders to address power issues and expedite repairs. Once floodwaters recede, the remaining sites are expected to resume operations quickly.
Authorities emphasized that ensuring uninterrupted mobile and internet services remains a top priority during this emergency, highlighting the critical role telecom infrastructure plays in disaster response and communication.
