Caretaker PM Anwaarul Haq Kakar Clarifies Position on PTI

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar has addressed several crucial issues during his visit to Mayo Hospital. He discussed the repatriation of illegal migrants, categorizing them into three groups. Registered refugees receive government support, while foreigners without documentation can return to Pakistan with valid travel documents and visas. The government is focused on regulated movement and has devised a mechanism to address identity theft cases.

PM Kakar emphasized that all registered political parties, whether big or small, have equal rights and opportunities to participate in the upcoming elections. He acknowledged concerns about a level playing field and assured that those with such concerns have the freedom to voice them.

Regarding the schedule for general elections, he reiterated that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is a constitutional body responsible for determining the election date. The delimitation process is a constitutional requirement, and the caretaker government is prepared to assist the ECP in this process. However, the election date is the prerogative of the ECP, and the caretaker government cannot dictate it.

PM Kakar highlighted Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to raise the issue of Palestine on the global stage, denouncing the recent aggression by Israel and co-hosting an emergency session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation with Saudi Arabia. He expressed Pakistan’s commitment to the resolution of the Palestine issue and called for an immediate ceasefire and the opening of a humanitarian corridor.

The prime minister also discussed the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), emphasizing its importance as a statutory body with decisions that cannot be challenged.

He mentioned ongoing negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and expressed confidence in reaching further agreements during the IMF team’s visit in November.

The prime minister credited the government’s measures to crack down on smuggling and illicit currency trade for reducing inflation, leading to lower US dollar and petroleum product prices. These efforts have also encouraged the local industry and improved economic indicators.

In addition, he stressed the significance of promoting Pakistan’s history and culture to boost the tourism sector and commended provincial governments for their initiatives to attract religious tourism. He called on other provinces with historical sites to focus on tourism development.

Lastly, PM Kakar clarified the position of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) regarding the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), reaffirming that the ECP had not imposed any restrictions on the PTI and there were no plans to dismantle it as a political party. The allocation of election symbols to political parties falls under the ECP’s jurisdiction, and the caretaker government is committed to upholding legality and constitutionality. He also praised Mayo Hospital’s administration for its cost-effective revamp and assured the caretaker federal government’s support for similar projects in provincial governments.
